I must be one of the only people in the sewing community who hasn’t made a Cleo dress yet! I love the style on other people but am not sure how I would style it and whether the shape would suit me. I think a dungaree dress also looks adorable on little girls so when I spotted the Mary Dress pattern by Bobbins & Buttons I was really keen to make one for my daughter.
I was very kindly sent the pattern and some yellow stretch denim for this project. The pattern comes in an A4 sized wallet with a pattern booklet and pattern pieces printed on a large folded sheet of paper. I chose to trace the pattern as I know I will want to make it in several sizes. It comes in a generous range of sizes from 1-12 years.
I made the size 5 but used the size 6 length, there are not many pattern pieces to trace and cut so this part went quite quickly. The sewing was also very straightforward, the topstitching was quite satisfying to do as it gives the project a neat professional finish. I ordered the dungaree clips from Lamazi Fabrics which arrived quickly and were really easy to install.
This dress is comfortable for playing in and I like that it will last a long time thanks to the adjustable straps. It can be worn with short or long sleeved tops and tights/leggings in the winter so is really versatile.
Many thanks to Bobbins & Buttons for sending me this pattern and fabric, it was a quick and enjoyable project which will be worn a lot!
