I was given the opportunity to choose some fabric from the Fibers to Fabric Etsy shop a few weeks ago and after some deliberation (there are a lot of beautiful fabrics!) I chose a blue ikat cotton.
I couldn’t resist the gold sequinned trim as well and after placing the order I was expecting a bit of a wait as the fabric was coming from India. To my surprise it arrived very quickly, in about 2-3 days!
I decided to make the Sew Over It Carrie trousers. It took a bit of pattern placement Tetris but I eventually worked out I could cut it by doing each piece separately rather than on the fold. I did my best to match the pattern on both legs on the front and back. I did have to cut the back waistband crosswise but it looked fine in the end.
I cut a size 10, grading to a 12 at the waist. The pattern is quite forgiving because of the elastic waist so I could have got away without grading. I followed the video which was very helpful for understanding the steps, but it was straightforward to make.
The fabric is lightweight and very comfortable to wear. It also washed really well and maintained its colour perfectly.
I really enjoyed making these trousers and will try and make another pair soon as they are so comfortable and practical for summer.
